Sanjay Kaliravana from Hisar has succeeded in making his place in the team leaving for Paris Olympics. Sanjay was part of the team that won the Gold Medal in the Asian Games. Sanjay Kaliravana from Dabda village of Hisar took up hockey at the age of seven. He could not buy a hockey stick due to financial constraints. He practised for a month with his seniors’ hockey stick. After this, coach Rajendra Sihag got him a hockey stick and Sanjay has made his name shine in hockey today. Sanjay played a role in the team’s victory by defending the team from the attacks of the opponent players. He was playing in the Asian Games for the first time.

Sanjay has two sisters. Father Nekiram is a farmer while mother Kaushalya is a housewife. Along with the family, coach Rajendra Sihag played an important role in bringing Sanjay to this level. It is because of them that Sanjay has reached this position today. Coach Rajendra Sihag says that Sanjay will be welcomed when he reaches the village. Sanjay played the Junior World Cup in the year 2021. Similarly, he won a gold medal in the Youth Olympics in 2018.

He has contributed significantly to many of India’s victories in recent times. He uses his energy properly during matches and becomes a great bridge between midfielders and defenders by covering a large part of the field. He has also scored many goals, which clearly shows that his focus is not only on defense. Sanjay said – We all judge our performance on the basis of performance in big tournaments. I consider myself very fortunate to have contributed to the team’s success in the last few years. Sultan Johor Cup 2017 was my first international tournament and we won a bronze medal there. And then we managed to win a silver medal in the third Youth Olympic Games 2018.
