I was not fond of chess, I was cheated, Shyam Rajak resigns from RJD in a poetic style

Former Bihar minister and Dalit leader Shyam Rajak left the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Thursday. It is believed that he may once again join Nitish Kumar’s party JDU. 70-year-old Rajak said that he will talk about his plan to join JD(U) next week. Rajak sent his resignation to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on X. He wrote in a poetic style that I was not fond of chess, so I got cheated, you were moving the pawns and I was maintaining relationships.

Rajak did not give the reason for leaving RJD. He is believed to be upset over not getting any major post in RJD and not being able to contest the assembly elections in 2020. His Phulwari seat (reserved) was given to RJD ally Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, whose Gopal Ravidas won the seat. Rajak wanted to contest from Samastipur in the 2024 national elections, but the seat was given to the Congress.
An RJD leader said that in the 2025 assembly elections, Rajak was unlikely to contest from Phulwari, as it is with the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. This is one of the factors that may have led Rajak to decide to leave the party. However, this is not the first time that Shyam Rajak will join JDU. He has been in JDU before as well. Shyam Rajak was once seen as a very trusted leader of Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Shyam Rajak started his politics with the JP movement. He was elected MLA for the first time in 1995 and became close to Lalu Yadav. He has also been a minister in Lalu and Rabri’s government. In 2009, he left Lalu Yadav and joined Nitish Kumar’s party. He became a minister after winning the election in 2010. After this, he won the election again but did not get a ministerial post in the Grand Alliance government. However, in 2020, there was a conflict in Shyam Rajak’s relationship with Nitish Kumar. After this, Shyam Rajak was expelled from Nitish Kumar’s party.
