Chicago (USA). US Vice President Kamala Harris has said that if she is elected President of the United States, she will ensure that America wins the “21st century competition” and not China and that its role as a world leader is strengthened. Harris formally accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidential election to be held in November on Thursday night. There is a tough competition between Harris and Republican Party candidate and former President Donald Trump in the election.
Harris, of Indian-African origin, accepted the candidacy during the ‘Democratic National Convention’ in Chicago and with this she became the second woman leader of the Democratic Party to become a presidential candidate. Harris (59) is the first Indian-American and the first black woman to become a candidate of a major party for the US presidency. Harris, who came on stage to accept the candidacy at the ‘United Center’ in Chicago, said that she would create an “opportunity-based economy” where everyone would get a chance to compete and succeed. Harris (59) said, “I will ensure that we lead the world in the field of space and artificial intelligence and that America, not China, wins the competition of the 21st century and we strengthen our role as the leading country of the world instead of giving it up.”
She said, “Whether you live in a rural area, a small town or a big city… as President, I will bring together workers and employees, small business owners and entrepreneurs, and American companies to create jobs. I will expand our economy and reduce the cost of everyday needs like healthcare, housing and groceries.” Harris targeted Trump and said that he contests elections not for the middle class but for himself and his billionaire friends. She also called for reform in the immigration system.
