Islamabad. The Pakistan government has informed the High Court here that there is no consideration of military trial of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Just a few days ago, the court had asked the government to clarify the uncertainty on this issue. Khan (71) had filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court against the possibility of military trial in connection with the cases registered against him for his involvement in the May 9, 2023 violence.
In the violence that took place last year, supporters of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party allegedly attacked military installations after his arrest. Last week, the Islamabad High Court had asked the government to clarify the situation regarding the uncertainty on this issue. According to the ‘Dawn’ newspaper, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Barrister Munawar Iqbal Duggal presented the government’s statement on the issue before a bench of the Islamabad High Court on Monday. According to the newspaper, he told the court that the government has no intention of trying Khan in a military court.
