Team India’s spinner R Ashwin played a very important role in India’s victory in the Chennai Test against Bangladesh. He scored 113 runs in the first innings and then took 6 wickets in the second innings. During this time Ashwin also broke many records, he equaled Shane Warne’s record of taking 5 wickets in an innings the most number of times in Test cricket. With this, he can now break 5 big records in the Kanpur Test as well.
Ashwin has already become the highest wicket-taker for India in the fourth innings of a Test. With just one more wicket in the fourth innings, he will become the first Indian and sixth bowler overall to complete 100 wickets in the fourth innings.
Ashwin just needs three more wickets and he can surpass Zaheer Khan’s record of 31 red-ball wickets against Bangladesh. Zaheer has 31 wickets while Ashwin has 29 wickets against Bangladesh.
If Ashwin takes 4 more wickets in the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh, he will surpass Josh Hazlewood in the current World Test Championship cycle. Ashwin will have 52 wickets to his name and will become the highest wicket-taker.
With this, Ashwin can break the late Shane Warne’s record of 37 five-wicket hauls. He had equalled this record in the Chennai Test. If Ashwin takes five wickets in the Kanpur Test, he will go ahead in the innings.
