India sees education as a key medium to enhance greater cooperation with the world: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said India today sees education as a “key vehicle” to foster greater cooperation between the country and the world. He said this in his address at an event held here to hand over a letter of intent to the University of Southampton.

The university will set up a campus in India under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. “Today we are witnessing a significant milestone in the field of international education in India,” the Union Minister said.

Speaking at a function organised at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan here, he said the University of Southampton, one of the top 100 universities in the world, will set up its first campus in India.

The Union Minister said, “Today’s programme is also a testimony to the strong and multifaceted bilateral relationship between India and the UK, of which education is a particularly important pillar. At the centre of this progress is the National Education Policy 2020.”

The minister said it is not just a policy but is truly a vision for the future of education in India which “aspires to raise our standards to the highest global levels”.

Jaishankar said, “It aims to make India a centre of excellence, attract students from across the world, establish overseas university campuses and promote global competencies among our students and faculty.” The minister said, “Today we see education as a key instrument to enhance deeper cooperation between India and the world.
