Gorakhpur. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Sunday that Indian civilization and culture have been full of democratic values ​​since ancient times. Yogi said this in his presidential address in the conference on ‘India is the mother of democracy’ on the first day of the series of conferences on contemporary topics to commemorate the 55th death anniversary of Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath ji Maharaj of Gorakshpeeth and the 10th death anniversary of Brahmalin Mahant Avaidyanath ji Maharaj. He said, ‘When there was no insistence on civilization, culture and human values ​​in the world, then civilization, culture and human life values ​​were at their peak in India.’
According to an official statement, Yogi said, ‘Indian civilization and culture has been full of democratic values ​​from ancient times to modern times. Its purpose was not to usurp anyone or to rule over anyone forcibly, but its spirit has been ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’. He said, ‘Its new form is seen today in the resolution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’. Yogi said, our Rishi tradition has been of live and let live because this is the true democracy and this value-based democracy has been given by none other than India.’

Welcoming the chief guest of the conference, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that there are many examples of democracy from the Vedic period to the Ramayana and Mahabharata period. The Chief Minister said, ‘It is unfortunate that the mentality of slavery still dominates some people in the country, while the roots of democracy in India have been deep since ancient times.’
He said, ‘Our democracy is safe only as long as our Constitution is safe. Everyone will have to take the responsibility of protecting the Constitution with a sacred spirit, rising above caste, creed, religion and region.’ The Chief Minister said, ‘If we move forward giving the highest respect to the Constitution, then our democracy will become stronger.’
Chief guest of the conference, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh said that the values ​​of democracy have been shaped by five thousand years old Indian values. In true sense, democracy is running on Indian values ​​and values. Singh said that expressing your views openly is the reality of democracy and this value has been inherent in thousands of years of Indian tradition.
The Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha said, ‘In Indian democracy, people have every kind of freedom and there is also scope to correct the shortcomings.’ He said, ‘People influenced by English values ​​have made the mistake of considering Indian democracy as imported. The reason for this mistake was that the habit of looking at Indian democracy from the point of view of Greece was inculcated.’

He said, ‘After India gained independence, many foreign scholars had said that democracy will not last in India and today the answer to that is that next year we are going to celebrate the Amrit Year of the implementation of the Constitution.’ Harivansh said, ‘Today India is presenting itself to the world from the real perspective of the mother of democracy. Earlier this topic was not discussed. Today India talked about it through the G-20 conference.’
