Dhaka: Indian Visa Application Centres in major cities of Bangladesh have started offering limited application slots for Bangladeshi nationals requiring urgent medical and student visas. These services are being offered in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna. “Further, these five centres have also opened limited application slots for urgent cases where Bangladeshi students and workers need to travel to a third country and for which they have already booked visas with foreign embassies in India,” the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Bangladesh said in a statement.
“These services will remain limited until IVAC resumes its normal operations,” the statement said. Bangladesh was hit by massive protests by students against the controversial reservation system in government jobs. The protests began in mid-July and eventually led to the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government from power on August 5. More than 600 people have died due to the protests since mid-July. Currently, an interim government led by 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is running the country.
