These services will remain limited until the IVAC resumes its normal operations later, the statement said. Earlier in the first week of August, the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka had suspended services due to the “volatile situation” created by several weeks of deadly protests.

Indian Visa Application Centres in major cities of Bangladesh have started offering limited appointment slots for Bangladeshi nationals requiring urgent medical and student visas. The services are being offered in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna. “Furthermore, these five centres have also opened limited appointment slots for urgent cases where Bangladeshi students and workers need to travel to third countries and for which they already have visa appointments with foreign embassies in India,” the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) said.

These services will remain limited until the IVAC resumes its normal operations later, the statement said. Earlier in the first week of August, the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka had suspended services due to the “volatile situation” created by weeks of deadly protests that led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the formation of an interim government. However, on August 12, the centre resumed services for a limited period.

Bangladesh was rocked by massive student protests against the controversial quota system in government jobs that began in mid-July and eventually forced the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government out of power on August 5. More than 600 people have died since mid-July. Currently, an interim government led by 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is running the country.
