NITI Aayog was established on 1 January 2015 as a new institution in place of the Planning Commission. It emphasizes on a bottom-up approach to realize the vision of maximum governance and minimum government, resonating with the spirit of cooperative federalism. It acts as an advisory think tank and makes people with wide expertise its members. It does not have the right to implement policies. NITI Aayog also does not have the right to allocate funds. Recently, the central government has reorganized the National Institute for Transforming India (NITI Aayog). In which four full-time members and 15 Union Ministers will be ex-officio members or special invitees. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue to be the chairman of NITI Aayog. And economist Suman K Berry will remain the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog. Scientist VK Saraswat, agricultural economist Rame Chand, pediatrician VK Paul and macro economist Arvind Virmani will also remain full-time members of the government think tank.

5 main objectives of NITI Aayog
Promote cooperative federalism through structured support initiatives and mechanisms with the States on a sustained basis, recognizing that strong States make strong nations.
Develop mechanisms for preparing credible plans at the village level and progressively integrating these at higher levels of government.
Pay special attention to those sections of society that are at risk of not benefiting adequately from economic progress.
To encourage and advise partnerships between key stakeholders and national and international like-minded think tanks, as well as academic and policy research institutions.
To build knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship support systems through a collaborative community of national and international experts, other partners.
policy commission meeting
The Prime Minister is its chairman and its Governing Council meets every year under his chairmanship. The council has been established as per an order issued by the Central Secretariat. The CMs of all the states, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators of Union Territories are its members. So far, eight meetings of the Governing Council have been held. In this meeting, cooperative federalism, topics related to various sectors, departments and federal issues are discussed.
