India’s first air train will run at Delhi airport, know interesting information about it

Passengers get hundreds of facilities at Delhi International Airport. In this series, passengers are going to get one more facility. Regarding this, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has also issued a tender. According to this, a tender has been issued for the construction of Air Train or Automated People Mover (APM) for the convenience of passengers coming to Terminal 1, 2 and 3. Four stops have also been arranged in this Air Train.
 
It is worth noting that this is going to be the first air train in India. It can start by 2027. This train will have 4 stops – Terminal 2/3, Terminal 1, Aero City and Cargo City. According to the information, this air train will be introduced as an alternative to DTC buses. Currently passengers use it between two distant terminals. Reports suggest that the operator may get bids for this in October and November. Who will win the bid will be decided on the basis of the cost quoted by various parties and other factors.

Air trains have long been used globally for passengers to ensure seamless movement between terminals. This facility is free at airports. It is basically a monorail that runs between terminals of many international airports across the world to ensure smooth and hassle-free services to passengers. Passengers use this connection to travel from one terminal to another. It is especially used during transit flights. Airtrains arrive and depart from designated stations in a very short time.

Delhi International Airport handles more than 7 crore passengers every year. There is no doubt that Delhi Airport is the busiest airport in India. Delhi Airport is now planning to double its capacity to 13 crore in the next 6-8 years. In such a situation, the need for an air train at the airport is quite high. According to some reports, it is estimated that about 25% of the passengers will be transit passengers and hence they will need seamless transfers between terminals. Experts also suggest that the heavy traffic coming to Delhi Airport can be managed only by an air train.
