Karachi. Former hockey player Rao Salim Nazim claimed that the Pakistan government has insulted several Olympians by withdrawing the invitation to a dinner organised in honour of Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem in the name of guest management. Nadeem won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics with an Olympic record distance of 92.97 meters. Nazim, who heads the forum of former Pakistani hockey players, said, “The PM House had sent invitations to several hockey legends to attend the function and all of them received emails confirming their invitation. But at the last moment many of us received a message from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat that there was difficulty in accommodating the number of guests, so the invitation was withdrawn.
Expressing disappointment over this, he said, “Do you treat hockey players who have won not just one but many Olympic medals for the country like this?” Pakistan had won its last Olympic gold medal in hockey in Los Angeles in 1984. Before Nadeem, the last Olympic medal also belonged to Pakistan’s hockey team. The team had won a bronze medal in 1992.
