Last week, photos of Darshan roaming around with three others, including a gangster, on the lawn of the Parappana Agrahara prison went viral. The actor was seen sitting on a chair and holding a cigarette and a coffee mug.
The Karnataka government has issued a show cause notice to Director General of Prisons Malini Krishnamurthy after an alleged video surfaced showing Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa getting VIP treatment inside the prison. The notice was issued after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to take disciplinary action against the DGP. The DGP has been asked to explain the lapse. Darshan was arrested in June in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old auto driver named Renukaswamy. Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor, was abducted and murdered by a gang on Darshan’s orders after he allegedly sent objectionable messages on social media to actor Pavithra Gowda.
Last week, photos of Darshan roaming around with three others, including a gangster, on the lawn of the Parappana Agrahara prison went viral. The actor was seen sitting on a chair and holding a cigarette and a coffee mug. Another purported video of Darshan talking to someone on a video call from the prison also went viral on social media, following which three teams were formed to investigate the incidents. Meanwhile, the DGP (Prisons) has issued a direction to the prison superintendent to send notices to all mobile network operators, seeking an explanation as to how the actor was able to make video calls despite the presence of three jammers inside the prison premises.
Letters have been sent to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and telephone operators including Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone-Idea and Jio, requesting detailed clarifications. The chief superintendent has been directed to submit a report on the matter by September 4.
