IPL 2025: Zaheer Khan returns to the Indian Premier League, Lucknow Super Giants makes him the mentor of the team

Lucknow Super Giants have appointed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as the mentor of the team ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. 45-year-old Zaheer will return to the IPL after two years. Earlier, he was associated with five-time champion Mumbai Indians between 2018 and 2022. Let us tell you that this post is vacant in the Lucknow team since the departure of Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders which won the 2024 IPL. Now Gambhir is the head coach of the Indian team.

At the same time, Lucknow Super Giants shared a video on social media informing about Zaheer Khan being made a mentor. Zaheen made his IPL debut in 2008. After this, he played for the last time in 2017. Zaheer Khan held different roles after this. He was with Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022. Now he will play the role of mentor for Lucknow. Before him, Gautam Gambhir was in this position, Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. After his departure, the position of mentor was vacant in Lucknow. After which Zaheer was given this position.

If we talk about the coaching staff of Lucknow, Justin Lanker is handling the responsibility of the head coach. He came in place of Andy Flower, Lance Klusener and Adam Voges are the team assistant coaches. There will be no change in the coaching staff after Zaheer’s arrival. But Zaheer will perform other responsibilities along with being a mentor. He can also organize player development programs.
