There is a huge outrage in Israel after six more hostages were found dead in Gaza. Millions of furious protesters took to the streets chanting Now! Now! They demanded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu initiate a ceasefire with Hamas to bring the remaining captives home. The mass gathering appeared to be the largest demonstration of its kind in 11 months of war and protesters said it felt like a potential turning point.

Ben Gurion International Airport closed
Israel’s largest trade union, the Histadrut, has piled pressure on the government by calling for a general strike. The strike is the first called since Hamas’ attack on October 7. It aims to shut down or disrupt key sectors of the economy, including banking, health care and the country’s main airport. Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport will shut down operations for at least two hours, CNN reported, citing airport officials. Ceasefire talks have dragged on for months. Many blame Netanyahu for failing to reach an agreement. But the prime minister also has significant support for his all-out win-win strategy against Hamas, even if the hostages have to wait for an agreement.

Protesters march towards Netanyahu’s office
Thousands gathered outside Netanyahu’s office in Jerusalem on Sunday night, some weeping. In Tel Aviv, relatives of the hostages marched with coffins to symbolize the dead. “We really think the government is making these decisions for its own protection, not for the lives of the hostages, and we need to tell them that,” said Tel Aviv resident Shlomit Hakohen.
