It was like a bad day: Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach Helmot

Chennai. Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach Simon Helmot termed the crushing defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final here on Sunday as a bad day for the team. Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen, who created fear among the bowlers of the opposing teams with their aggressive batting in most matches of the IPL season, were out for just 113 runs in the final. KKR achieved the target in the 11th over by losing only two wickets. Helmot said in the post-match press conference, “We were not going to change our method or approach. We wanted to be smart as well as aggressive and deal with the circumstances.”

He said, “Our plan was definitely not to get out for 113 runs in the 18th over. We played really positively, but some good balls (from KKR bowlers) in the beginning put us on the backfoot. Unfortunately, it was like those (bad) days.” After deciding to bat first, the Sunrisers batsmen failed completely. The team’s first three batsmen could not even reach double figures. Opener Travis Head was dismissed by Vaibhav Arora. He returned to the pavilion without opening the account for the third time in four matches.

The Australian coach said, “Travis is an experienced player. We have seen many matches where he and Abhishek have played big innings.” He said, “Obviously we did not get as much (support) from the middle order as we wanted, but it was a very good ball to get him (Head) out.” Praising KKR’s performance this season, Helmot said that the Shreyas Iyer-led franchise displayed an aggressive mindset. He said, “We have to give credit to KKR. The season has been very good for them, they have won 79 percent of their matches. This team has shown aggressive play on the field with bat and ball. We will come back strongly next season.
