Jairam Thakur did not develop Hamirpur to weaken Dhumal: CM, Sukhu

Hamirpur. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jai Ram Thakur ignored Hamirpur to weaken former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. Thakur has been the former Chief Minister of Himachal. While addressing a series of public meetings in support of Congress candidate Pushpendra Verma in the Hamirpur assembly by-election, Sukhu said, “Hamirpur district suffered a huge loss due to the defeat of Prem Kumar Dhumal as Jai Ram Thakur discriminated against the district.

He said, “During the previous tenure of the Jairam government, neither anyone from Hamirpur was made a minister nor any development work was done in Hamirpur district.” Referring to himself, Sukhu said that for the first time Congress made someone from lower Himachal the Chief Minister, but three MLAs from his (Sukhu’s) district were allegedly involved in the conspiracy to topple the government. In the Rajya Sabha elections held in February last, nine MLAs voted against the Congress candidate. These included six rebel MLAs of Congress and three independent MLAs.

Sukhu claimed that when attempts were made to topple the Congress government, 34 MLAs from Shimla, Kangra, Sirmaur, Kullu, Una, Chamba and other districts stood by him like a rock, but three MLAs from Hamirpur betrayed him, including Ashish Sharma, the current BJP candidate in the by-election on the Hamirpur seat. Sukhu alleged that the former independent MLA made money by looting mineral wealth. He (Ashish Sharma) was an independent MLA. If the Congress government was not working, he should have sat in the opposition with the BJP. What was the need for him to resign?
