Jamaat-e-Islami chief denies his party’s involvement in attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

Dhaka. Jamaat-e-Islami party Shafiqur Rahman has said that his party was not involved in the attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh and blamed malicious media campaign for the negative image of his party. Rahman also denied the allegations that his party was involved in anti-India activities in Bangladesh. He asked India to present any evidence if it has any. Responding to a question about the allegations of attacks on Hindus by Jamaat workers in Bangladesh, Rahman termed the allegations baseless.
He said, we do not believe in the concept of minority and majority, we believe in unity. We do not consider Hindus as a minority, they are our brothers and friends in Bangladesh. We are with our Hindu brothers and we will stand with them. Rahman said, “Jamaat workers guarded the temples and houses of Hindus after August 5 so that no untoward incident happens. These are baseless allegations. Jamaat workers and leaders are making every effort to protect the Hindu community.” He said, in the last 16 years you cannot show a single example where Jamaat has occupied or looted the property of Hindus.
Awami League leaders have done this and blamed us for it. Jamaat believes that as citizens of Bangladesh, members of all communities have equal rights in this country. Our Constitution guarantees this. We have never oppressed our Hindu brothers. They are our brothers and friends.” Rahman blamed a malicious media campaign for the negative image of Jamaat-e-Islami. “The perception that we are a militant organisation is completely wrong. The time has come to change this perception. We are not against any country,” he said. He said if India could provide evidence of any anti-India terrorist activity by the Jamaat, his party was ready to apologise.
