Jammu-Kashmir Elections: A day before voting, Congress gave big responsibility to Charanjit Channi and Mukesh Agnihotri

A day ahead of polling, the Congress on Tuesday appointed Charanjit Singh Channi and Mukesh Agnihotri as senior All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases. Voting for 24 seats will be held in the first phase on Wednesday, followed by voting for 26 seats in the second phase on September 25. Voting for 40 seats in the third phase will be held on October 1, while the counting of votes will take place on October 8. Earlier on Monday, the Congress released its manifesto for the assembly elections in the UT, promising several welfare measures for farmers, women and youth. The party also promised to work to restore statehood in Jammu and Kashmir.
The highlights of the manifesto — “Haath Badlega Haalat” — include provision of insurance for all crops against natural calamities and a guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 72 per kg for apples. The “hand” is the election symbol of the Congress party. All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief spokesperson Pawan Khera and state Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra released the manifesto at the party headquarters here.

“We will provide additional financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per year to landless, landholder and landowner farmer families,” Kheda said. He said a fund of Rs 2,500 crore will be set up for all district-level irrigation projects to ensure 100 per cent irrigation for farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.
