Bangladesh’s opposition party has made an important demand from India regarding Sheikh Hasina. BNP said that India should send Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh so that legal action can be taken against her. BNP claims that Sheikh Hasina has many cases registered against her in Bangladesh, including murder. Sheikh Hasina should be handed over to the Bangladesh government under the legal process. Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Tohir Hussain in the interim government of Bangladesh has also said something like this earlier. After the change of power in Bangladesh, the student organizations there have also started demanding to send former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to Dhaka. However, there is an extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh.

The government is currently in no mood to take any action against her. So far 31 cases have been filed against Sheikh Hasina in the country. Bangladesh has an extradition treaty since 2013 under which both countries extradite people who have fled from each other’s country. However, the bilateral extradition treaty does not apply to people related to politics.
