Kim Jong Un inspected the test of a “suicide drone”

SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a demonstration of a new “suicide drone” and vowed to boost the development of such weapons to boost his military’s combat readiness, state media reported Monday, as he showed off his growing military capabilities amid heightened tensions between the United States and North Korea.

Pictures of the North Korean test have emerged in which a white drone is seen, whose rear and wings are shaped like the letter ‘X’ of the English alphabet. In the pictures, the drone is allegedly seen destroying South Korea’s main battle tank K-2. Most combat drones attack with missiles while staying away from the target. According to state media, this test took place on Saturday. This test was done at a time when the US and South Korean armies are conducting large-scale maneuvers to enhance joint capabilities.

The aim of this exercise is to defend against the growing nuclear threat from North Korea. Both countries said that the aim of this exercise, which will continue till Thursday, is to enhance their preparedness against various North Korean threats. North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency said that Saturday’s test involved various types of drones, which are designed to fly different distances to attack enemy targets on land and sea. It said that the drones flew various routes before hitting the targets with precision.

Kim said global trends in military technologies and modern warfare reflect the importance of drones in warfare and that the North Korean military should be equipped with better drones “as soon as possible”. KCNA said Kim called for the accelerated development and production of various systems, including suicide drones that can be used by infantry and special operations units.
