The second phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections recorded 54.11% polling at polling stations till 7 pm. Polling in 26 assembly constituencies, which began at 7 am today, was conducted peacefully without any incident of violence. The total polling percentage recorded in these six districts that went to polls in the second phase has also surpassed the polling percentage recorded in Lok Sabha elections 2024. Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole said that the highest polling percentage of 79.95% was recorded in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Katra Assembly constituency. Reasi district, which has 3 assembly constituencies, recorded the highest polling percentage of 74.14%. Poonch recorded 73.78%, Rajouri 69.85%, Ganderbal 62.63% and Budgam 61.31% and Srinagar 29.24%, where polling is still underway at some polling stations.
The Chief Election Officer said that there has been no such incident that makes me feel that re-poll is required. There were 3502 polling stations and there is no polling station where the voting percentage was in single digits… Especially in Srinagar, the voting percentage today was higher than the voting percentage in the Lok Sabha. During the Lok Sabha elections, the voting percentage of Srinagar was 24.83%, this time we have increased it by more than 5%.
Long queues of enthusiastic voters were seen at many places. These people were eagerly waiting for their turn. Voters including men, women, elderly and youth proudly showed their inked fingers after voting. This voting is taking place amidst the boycott calls and threats of terrorists. The atmosphere at the polling booths was enthusiastic. The enthusiasm of the people was clearly visible. First time voters, centenarians and differently-abled people showed their passion for democracy. The assembly constituencies where voting is taking place in the second phase are in six districts. Of these, three districts are in the Valley and three in Jammu division. The Ministry of External Affairs has invited 16 foreign representatives from the embassies of various countries in New Delhi to observe this election.
