The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the rape-murder case of a female resident doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. The case will be heard on August 20. Amidst all this, the statement of the victim’s mother has come out. She has made serious allegations against the hospital administration and the police.
The mother of the deceased doctor said, ‘First we got a call from the hospital that your daughter is ill, then the call got disconnected. After that when I called and asked what happened, they asked me to come to the hospital. When we called again, (the caller) introduced himself as Assistant Super and said that your daughter has committed suicide. She went on duty on Thursday, we got this call on Friday at 10:53 am. When we reached there, we were not allowed to see her, we were allowed to see her at 3 o’clock. Her pants were open, there was only one piece of cloth on her body. Her hand was broken, blood was coming out of her eyes, mouth. Just by looking at her, it seemed that someone had killed her. I told them that this is not suicide, it is murder. We worked very hard to make our daughter a doctor, but she was murdered.’
On the phone call of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said, ‘She (Mamata Banerjee) had said that the culprit will be arrested as soon as possible, but nothing has happened yet. One person has been arrested. I am sure that many more people are involved in this incident. I think the entire department is responsible for this incident. The police did not do a good job at all. I think the Chief Minister is trying to stop the protest, today she has imposed Section 144 here so that people cannot protest.’

About the CP, he said, ‘He did not cooperate with us at all, he just tried to hush up the matter as soon as possible. His attempt was to get the post-mortem done as soon as possible and remove the body.’

The victim’s mother said, ‘Through you we want to give a message to the people of the whole country. We are grateful to all the countrymen, the world and the people of the state, we request you to stand with us until the accused is caught. We just want that this should not happen to any mother, no one should have to lose their child like us.’
