Kolkata. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials are collecting call details and chat information of former principal of Government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh in connection with the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor. An official of the investigating agency said that Ghosh, who appeared before CBI officials for the third consecutive day on Sunday, has been asked to provide details of phone calls made before and after the incident at the hospital. He said that officials are considering contacting the mobile phone service provider to obtain Ghosh’s call details and data usage information. CBI had questioned Ghosh for about 13 hours till late Saturday night. Ghosh again reached the CBI office at CGO Complex in Salt Lake at 11 am on Sunday.
The CBI official told PTI, “We have a list of questions to ask him.” He said Ghosh has been asked to explain his role after getting the news of the doctor’s death, whom he contacted and why he made the (victim’s) parents wait for about three hours. According to the official, the former principal was also asked who ordered the repair of rooms near the seminar room of the hospital’s emergency building after the incident. He said, “We are trying to find out whether there was any conspiracy behind the crime or it was planned in advance. What was the principal doing and whether he is involved in the incident in any way.”
According to the CBI official, Ghosh’s answers will be matched with the statements of other doctors and trainees who were on duty in the Chest Medicine Department on the night of the incident. The CBI has so far questioned more than 20 people, including several Kolkata Police officials, in connection with its investigation. Ghosh refused to answer media questions while leaving the CBI office at CGO Complex in Salt Lake late Sunday night.
CBI officials first questioned Ghosh on Friday. After this, he was also called for questioning on Saturday. Ghosh resigned from the post of principal two days after the body of the female doctor was found on August 9. He expressed fear of attack on himself, after which his lawyer sought protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court directed him to approach the single bench. The body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The police arrested an accused the next day in this connection.
