Srinagar’s historic Lal Chowk seat is one of the 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. A tough fight is being witnessed between the candidates on this seat. The second phase of voting is to be held on 25 September on the Lal Chowk seat. Apart from other candidates, uncle and nephew are face to face on the Lal Chowk seat. In such a situation, this contest has become between Mir versus Mir. Both are trying their best to defeat each other. At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party is hopeful that it can also hoist its flag on this seat for the first time.
Mir Vs Mir at Lal Chowk
Senior leader of his party Ashraf Mir is contesting from Lal Chowk. PDP’s young candidate Zuhaib Yusuf Mir is also in the electoral fray. Ashraf Mir and Zuhaib Yusuf Mir are uncle-nephew. Ashraf Mir has held the post of minister in the PDP government. In the 2014 assembly elections, he defeated former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from Sonwar seat. However, after the alliance between BJP and PDP broke in 2018, he left the party and joined Altaf Bukhari’s own party.

After Ashraf Mir left the PDP party, his nephew Zuhaib Mir joined the party. Zuhaib has a PG degree in economics from Britain. The PDP chief has fielded Zuhaib Mir from Lal Chowk. In this way, uncle and nephew are face to face at Lal Chowk.
BJP is also putting in full force
In the history of Jammu and Kashmir, BJP has never won any seat from Kashmir Valley. However, this time BJP is putting its full force in Lal Chowk assembly constituency. BJP candidate Engineer Ejaz Hussain Rather is the face of the party in Kashmir. This is the reason why BJP has fielded Engineer Ejaz Hussain Rather from Lal Chowk constituency. To boost the morale of BJP candidates and workers, PM Modi himself tried to attract people by holding a rally from Lal Chowk in Srinagar. At the same time, Ejaz Hussain says that he is confident that he will win. Because after the removal of Article 370, BJP has done a lot of development.
