An eight-year-old girl playing in the house was snatched away by a leopard from a village near Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Bahraich. The mutilated body of the girl was found this morning in a field located some distance from the house. Villagers told that the matter is of Dharmapur village under Dharmapur range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary.

Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh). An eight-year-old girl playing at home was snatched away by a leopard in a village near Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Bahraich district. On Wednesday morning, the mutilated body of the girl was found in a field located some distance away from the house. Villagers told that three girls were playing in the courtyard of their house late on Tuesday evening in Dharmapur village under the Dharmapur range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. He told that while playing, two girls went inside the house but eight year old Shyama stayed in the courtyard. When the girl was not seen for a long time, the family members started searching. The forest department was also informed.

Villagers said that while following the blood stains and footprints of the leopard outside the house, family members, villagers and forest department patrol team found Shyama’s mutilated body in a field on Wednesday morning. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) B. Shivshankar told that the leopard had dragged away the girl on Tuesday evening. His mutilated body was recovered on Wednesday morning. He said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and Rs 10,000 has been given to the victim’s family as immediate financial assistance. Forest Range Officer Mubeen Arif said that after the post mortem report comes and other formalities are completed, the family will be given a compensation of Rs 5 lakh by the government. He said that people are being made aware in the villages adjacent to the forest and the Forest Department has increased patrolling in the area as a precautionary measure.
