Mandeep Singh had left cricket to fulfill his family’s wish, now he will show his strength in Paris

Indian hockey’s most trusted player Mandeep Singh has been given a place in the team going to the Olympic Games to be held in Paris, the capital of France. Mandeep Singh was not the first person in his family to play hockey. His elder brother also used to play hockey. He is a resident of Mithapur village in Punjab from where the country got star players like Pargat Singh. However, this was not the reason why Mandeep Singh started playing hockey. Initially, Mandeep Singh used to play cricket. At that time, he wanted to become a cricketer. However, the family did not want this. They wanted Mandeep to make a name for himself in hockey. This was the reason why Mandeep Singh chose hockey.

Mandeep was born on 25 January 1995 in Jalandhar, Punjab. He learned the nuances of this great game after enrolling as a young player at the Surjit Singh Hockey Academy. Mandeep Singh’s father’s name is Ravinder Singh and mother’s name is Davinderjit Kaur. Both of them were very happy when Mandeep received the Arjuna Award for his contribution to hockey. He was also a member of the Indian team that won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He was also part of the Ranchi Rhinos franchise in the inaugural edition of the Hockey India League, where he made 15 appearances and scored 12 goals in this glorious event.

He made his debut for Rhinos on 16 January 2013 against Punjab Warriors at Surjit Singh Hockey Academy and scored in the 50th minute to give his team a 2–1 victory. After impressive performances in the Hockey India League 2013 season, he made his debut for the national men’s hockey team on 18 February 2013 in the second round of the 2012–14 Hockey World League tournament which was held in Fiji where India displayed complete dominance over the opponent by eventually winning the competition by a huge margin of 16–0. His first international goal came against Oman on 20 February 2013 where he scored in the 42nd minute of the game as India defeated Oman 9–1.

He received the Best Junior Player award in the Men’s FIH Hockey World League Final in 2014. Mandeep Singh has made India proud since the junior level, whether it is winning the Hockey Junior World Cup or being selected as the best player of the tournament in the first edition of Hockey India League in the year 2013, this star forward player has come a long way. Mandeep Singh is among the young players of the Indian team. Despite this, he plays an important role in the team. He also played an important role in getting the Indian team a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics. Young Mandeep is an important weapon in the team captained by Manpreet Singh. In his eight-year career, Mandeep has given some memorable victories to the team, including the team’s victory in the Hero World Hockey League and the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in the year 2017.
