Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Santosh Iyer told PTI that in view of the high cost of vehicle ownership, the company is offering the EQA and EQB models as a better option keeping in mind the new customers in the luxury segment.

New Delhi: Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India is planning to launch entry-level electric vehicles (EVs) to attract first-time buyers looking to buy an expensive vehicle, a top company official said on Monday. Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Santosh Iyer told PTI that given the high cost of vehicle ownership, the company is offering the EQA and EQB models as a better option to target new customers in the luxury segment.

The company has launched the entry level electric SUV EQA 250 at a starting price of Rs 66 lakh. Apart from this, the price of EQB 350 SUV (five seater) model has been kept at Rs 77.5 lakh and the showroom price of EQB 250 Plus SUV (seven seater) has been kept at Rs 70.90 lakh. Iyer said that young customers with an income of more than Rs 1 crore can buy the company’s new electric models EQA and EQB and enjoy luxury vehicles. This is because the ownership cost of EV models is less compared to models with conventional engines.

However, Iyer said that Mercedes-Benz India is going to bring two top-end luxury EVs along with the entry-level model in its EV segment. He said, “We will soon announce the EQS Maybach SUV, which will be priced above Rs 3 crore, which is a top-end EV. Apart from this, we will also bring an electric G-Class priced above Rs 3 crore.
