MG Hector: MG Hector Blackstorm Edition is going to be launched, big details revealed

MG Motor India will launch the MG Hector Blackstorm edition in the country on April 10. Other SUVs from the carmaker, like the MG Astor and MG Gloster, already have a Blackstorm variant. The MG Hector Blackstorm will have red accents all around, including inside the cabin. It will get features like LED headlamps and taillamps, blacked-out grille and alloys, an all-black cabin with black-coloured upholstery with red accents, a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument panel and a panoramic sunroof.

The Hector, which is a volume driver for MG, is priced between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Although it is larger in dimensions, the MG Hector rivals other cars like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos in terms of price. It also competes with Tata Harrier. Talking about powertrain, MG Hector has two engine options and as many transmission options. You can have either a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (max power 143PS and peak torque 250Nm) or a 2.0-litre diesel engine (max power 170PS and peak torque 350Nm).

The petrol unit can be mated to a 6-speed MT or CVT automatic, while the diesel unit comes with a 6-speed MT with no option of automatic transmission. According to data from industry-body Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), MG increased its domestic market share from 1.15% in FY23 to 1.26% in FY24. The carmaker’s retail sales rose 18.82% year-on-year to 49,737 units from 41,859 units in the previous fiscal. Apart from the Astor, Hector and Gloster SUVs, MG also sells the Comet EV and ZS EV. Among all these vehicles, Hector has the highest sales, which is also the first vehicle to be introduced in India by the carmaker.
