Kiev. Russia targeted residential areas in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in which more than 20 people were injured. This is the second consecutive attack by Russia at night this week. Kharkiv’s local governor Oleh Sinyhubov said that Russia bombed the Shevchenkivsky district in the north-east of Ukraine on Saturday night. He said that in this attack, two residential buildings of 16 and nine floors were razed to the ground and seven other buildings were damaged.
According to Sinyubov and Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, 21 people were injured in the attack, including an eight-year-old child, two 17-year-olds and several elderly people. Terekhov said the attack came after another attack late Friday night in which 15 people, including children between the ages of 10 and 12, were injured. Russian air strikes targeted three areas of Kharkiv.
According to Ukrainian officials, both attacks used KAB-type aerial glide bombs, a Soviet weapon that has been used in eastern Ukraine for several months. The Ukrainian Air Force said in an online statement that Russia fired 80 drones and two missiles at Ukraine on Sunday night. The statement said Ukrainian air defenses shot down 71 drones and six other drones were destroyed on the spot by electronic warfare countermeasures.
