A mountain of troubles has fallen on Bangladesh cricket team’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. A murder case has been registered against Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently on a tour to Pakistan, has been accused of inciting murder.
According to an official at Dhaka’s Adabor police station, where the case was registered, Shakib is listed as the 27th or 28th accused in the FIR, ESPNcricinfo reported. The case relates to the murder of a garment worker who died during a protest.
The deceased laborer Mohammad Rubel, whose father Rafikul Islam lodged a complaint on Thursday. According to the Dhaka Tribune report, Mohammad Rubel suffered serious bullet injuries in the chest and stomach while participating in a rally on the ring road in Adabor, Dhaka. He later succumbed to his injuries, leading to his death. Let us tell you that Shakib was not in Bangladesh when the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to resign due to the protests. At that time Shakib was in Canada and was leading the Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the Global T20 Canada League.
The statement of case alleged that some of the accused persons opened fire on protesting students, including Rubel, on August 5, resulting in his fatal injury, the Daily Star reported. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights estimates that more than 400 people were killed during the unrest between July 16 and August 4, while some reports put the number at an even higher figure.
It is worth noting that after the Awami League was ousted from power, an interim government was established in Bangladesh and significant changes were made in the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Former national captain Farooq Ahmed has taken over as the president of the board. Shakib, who is currently playing in the Rawalpindi Test against Pakistan, became a member of Parliament earlier this year after winning the general elections in his hometown Magura.
Shakib has represented Bangladesh in 67 Tests, 247 ODIs and 129 T20Is and is regarded as one of the top all-rounders in world cricket. The left-arm spinner, who is also a top-order batsman, has amassed over 14500 international runs across formats along with his 703 wickets. He also plays regularly in top franchise leagues around the world including the IPL, PSL, CPL and BPL.
