On the occasion of PM Modi’s US visit, India’s former Foreign Secretary and current Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra shared a memorable moment from PM Modi’s 2014 visit to the United States. Kwatra was referring to the meeting between PM Modi and former US President Barack Obama.
Kawatra has shared this conversation with the title Modi Story. After the formal discussion between the two leaders ended, PM Modi and President Obama left to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. As they sat together in Obama’s stretch limousine for the 10-12 minute drive, their conversation also brought up family. In a friendly conversation, Obama asked about PM Modi’s mother. Smiling, PM Modi gave a candid and unexpected answer, saying President Obama, you may not believe it, but the size of your car is almost equal to the house in which my mother lives.
He told that the then US President Obama was surprised to hear his words, because a truth came out in that answer. Somewhere Barack Obama saw PM Modi’s own struggles in his life after that answer. Kwatra said that as far as I understand, after this meeting, a deep understanding developed between the two leaders. Both of them have risen from ordinary backgrounds to the highest positions in their respective countries.
