Ramanjit Singh alias Romi, one of the most wanted gangsters and prime accused in the Nabha jail break, will be extradited to India from Hong Kong on Thursday. The jailbreak mastermind will be brought to India at 4 pm today at the Delhi airport under an operation led by the Punjab Police and other security agencies. Earlier, a Hong Kong court had approved the Indian police’s charges against Singh as sufficient grounds for his extradition.

After getting formal approval from the government in this regard, a team of Punjab Police completed all the formalities for his extradition from Hong Kong. Interpol had put him on the global watch list after the request of Indian security agencies. Romi has been in the custody of Hong Kong Police since 2018 on the basis of Interpol Red Corner Notice issued against him in 2017. According to the investigating agencies, he was the nodal point of the nexus of terrorist leaders. Romi was involved in many cases of drugs and arms smuggling.

What was the Nabha jailbreak case?

He played a key role in the Nabha jailbreak case, in which several gangsters broke into a high-security jail on November 27, 2016 and freed 6 gangsters and other criminals. A group of gangsters disguised as policemen attacked the security guards in the high-security prison. Romi had provided money, weapons and other logistical support in the Nabha jailbreak case. Recently on August 6, 2024, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region issued an order for Ramanjit’s surrender.
