Netra Kumanan has secured the second Paris Olympic quota for India at the ‘Last Chance Regatta’ Olympic qualifier in Heres, France. Netra, who has participated in the Tokyo Olympics, has achieved this quota under the ‘Emerging Nations Programme’ banner while participating in the women’s dinghy (ILCA 6).

New Delhi . Netra Kumanan secured the second Paris Olympics quota for India at the ‘Last Chance Regatta’ Olympic qualifiers in Heres, France on Friday. Netra, who had participated in the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, achieved this quota under the ‘Emerging Nations Programme’ banner while competing in the women’s dinghy (ILCA 6). Netra finished fifth on the overall leaderboard with 67 net points. However, he achieved the quota by being at the top among the sailors under the ‘Emerging Nations Programme’.

Through this program, the aim of the sports governing body ‘World Sailing’ is to help the sailors of those countries who do not play much in this sport. In women’s dinghy, the top three players who first secured Olympic quota were Romania’s Ebru Bolat (36 net points), Cyprus’ Marilena Makri (37 net points) and Slovenia’s Lin Platikos (54 net points). Six-time Olympian Tatiana Drozdovskaya (59 net points), competing as an individual neutral athlete, finished fourth and missed the quota. The ‘Last Chance Regatta’ is the final qualifying tournament in sailing for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
