The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet in the 2022 Shivamogga Islamic State module conspiracy case. Abdul Mathin Taha and Musavir Hussain Shazib, two prime accused in the March 1 Rameswaram cafe blast, have been named as accused. The two were also separately chargesheeted in the Rameswaram cafe blast case earlier this month. The Shivamogga (Karnataka) ISIS case pertains to the suspicious activities of ISIS members, which was initially registered by the Shivamogga police in September 2022 and taken over by the NIA in November the same year.
The two were also part of the 20-member Al-Hind ISIS module headed by Bengaluru-based Mehboob Pasha and Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu)-based Khaja Moideen. Their names also cropped up in the killing of a special sub-inspector A Wilson at a check post near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in January 2020. The federal agency has so far filed three chargesheets against ten accused in the Shivamogga conspiracy case. Taha and Shajib, who were absconding since 2020, were engaged in radicalising and recruiting naïve Muslim youth, including co-accused in the instant (Shivamogga) case, the NIA said in a statement on Tuesday.
The agency said the accused (in this module) were involved in radicalisation, recruitment, funding of terrorism, besides violent activities such as arson, test blasts and burning of the Indian national flag as part of the IS conspiracy to spread terrorism and destabilise the country.
