Aim to surpass China in border security by 2026
Before 2014, China considered India’s military infrastructure weak. It thought that India would never be able to compete with China. The 31st round of the Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) meeting was held between India and China in Beijing on 29 August. In this, China has agreed to follow the border agreement with India. There has also been an agreement on reducing the tension on the border. After the meeting, India said that the talks with China have been clear, constructive and far-sighted. Beijing also agreed to strictly follow its border-related agreements with New Delhi.

Jaishankar called China a double puzzle
Jaishankar acknowledged the strategic importance of the country. In the case of China, you face a dual conundrum as it is both a neighbour and a major power. Therefore, the challenges with China fit into this dual definition, he said. Jaishankar also discussed the complexities of relations with Myanmar, Sri Lanka and the Maldives and pointed out that though these relationships have seen ups and downs, they are important for regional stability and cooperation.
