China has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s Balochistan province that killed 37 people. The Chinese government has pledged continued support to Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts. In a statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian condemned the attacks carried out by Baloch gunmen and stressed China’s firm stand against terrorism. Lin reiterated China’s commitment to support Pakistan in counter-terrorism operations, maintain social stability and ensure public safety. Lin said China is ready to enhance counter-terrorism and security cooperation with Pakistan to jointly maintain regional peace and security.

The violent incidents in Balochistan came as top Chinese military official General Li Qiaoming was in Pakistan for a security assessment focusing on the security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The CPEC, a $60 billion multi-project initiative, has faced opposition from Baloch militants who have repeatedly targeted the corridor, including attacks on Chinese personnel.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif addressed the situation on Tuesday, highlighting that the recent attacks, which began on Sunday and killed more than 70, represent the most widespread terrorist activity in years. Sharif said these attacks are aimed at disrupting CPEC development projects and driving a wedge between Islamabad and Beijing. “The terrorists want to stop CPEC and development projects,” Sharif said, adding that they are also trying to create discord between the two countries.
