Prime Minister Narendra Modi felt proud as he recalled India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory while addressing a crowd of jubilant Indians in Moscow on Tuesday during his two-day visit to Russia. Sharing the ‘real story’ of India’s memorable win, PM Modi said that the cricket team’s success reflects the never-say-die attitude of young Indians. India won the T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa in a thrilling final in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. India were in trouble at one stage when South Africa needed just 30 runs off the last balls while chasing 177 on a good batting pitch at Kensington Oval.

However, Rohit Sharma and his men did not give up and fought till the last ball was bowled. The fast bowling trio of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh accelerated in the last five overs and stopped the run flow to give India a 7-run win and create history. Regarding this, PM Modi said during his address that all of you must have celebrated India’s T20 World Cup victory. Did you celebrate or not? Were you all proud or not? The World Cup is a real story and a path towards victory. Today’s youth and the youth of India do not give up till the last ball and the last moment. Victory kisses the feet of those who are not ready to give up. This feeling is not limited to cricket alone but is evident in other sports as well.

Notably, the Prime Minister hosted the victorious Indian team for breakfast in New Delhi after Rohit Sharma and his teammates returned home from tornado-hit Barbados. PM Modi congratulated the cricketers in a fun interaction at his official residence in the capital city and heard anecdotes from the memorable campaign. Meanwhile, PM Modi also exuded confidence that India will do well at the upcoming Paris Olympics, scheduled to begin on July 26. PM Modi’s two-day visit to Russia is his first visit to the European country after securing a third term. Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed PM Modi late on Monday night.
