New Delhi. Newly-appointed CBDT Chairman Ravi Agarwal has told Income Tax Department officials that their decisions have an impact on the country’s economy, ease of doing business and international transactions. He also asked the officials to prepare a 100-day action plan. Agarwal (59) on Monday took charge as the head of the administrative body of the direct taxes department in the Union Finance Ministry. The government issued orders of his appointment last week. The new chief of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has written a two-page letter to officers and employees of the department, which has been seen by PTI.

In his message issued on Monday, Agrawal wrote, “Together we should build a professional department which is well versed with the nuances of investigation, sensitive to the needs of taxpayers, comfortable with technology and aware of our approach towards taxpayers.” He said, “We should be aware that our decisions have an impact on the country’s economy and ease of doing business, which includes international transactions and business.” He said that the government has ordered each department to prepare a 100-day action plan and hence he expects various cells of the department to prepare their action plans and complete them on time.
