Birth and education
P. Chidambaram, who belongs to an industrial family, was born on 16 September 1945 in Kanadukathan village of Tamil Nadu. His full name is Palaniappan Chidambaram. He completed his early education from Madras Christian Secondary School in Chennai. Then he received a Bachelor’s degree in Science in Statistics from President College, Chennai. Chidambaram received a Master’s degree in Business Management from Harvard University, Boston.

Let us tell you that initially P. Chidambaram used to practice law in Chennai High Court. Then in the year 1984, he was designated as a senior lawyer. He has worked as a lawyer in the High Courts and Supreme Court of many states.
Beginning of politics
When the Congress party split in 1969, he remained with Indira Gandhi. Then in 1984, Chidambaram became an MP for the first time from the Sivaganga Lok Sabha seat and was made Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce in the Rajiv Gandhi government. Chidambaram was made Minister of State in the Narasimha Rao government. He is an experienced and seasoned politician. However, on many occasions, the decisions taken by Chidambaram were also criticized.
When the Jan Lokpal movement was at its peak, P. Chidambaram was the Home Minister of the country. In such a situation, citing deteriorating law and order, Delhi Police arrested Anna Hazare and sent him to jail. Then Chidambaram was held responsible for the unpleasant situation. In 1986, he got the post of Personnel Ministry along with Public Grievances and Pension Ministry. Then in October 1986, Chidambaram was given the charge of Internal Security Minister in the Union Home Ministry. In 2004, P. Chidambaram took charge of the Finance Ministry in the Manmohan government. He remained on this post till 2008. In 2008, P. Chidambaram was made the Home Minister.
