Pakistan | Mysterious piles of corpses are being found near the roads, drains and dustbins of Karachi, no one has been identified yet, alert issued in Pakistan

The city of Karachi is grappling with a mysterious and worrying trend as the number of unidentified bodies found in various areas of the metropolis has now reached 22, Geo News reported on Wednesday. Despite the efforts of volunteers of a non-profit welfare organisation of Pakistan, none of the 22 bodies have been identified. Five new bodies were found on Tuesday, adding to the growing list of unidentified deaths.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Chhipa Welfare Association said that its volunteers had found five more bodies in different areas of Karachi. “Three of them appeared to be drug addicts, however, none of the bodies have been identified yet.” According to Geo News, Chhipa runs a network of ambulances in the city and confirmed that the number of unidentified bodies has reached 22. Out of the 22, nearly two dozen bodies are still unclaimed as no relatives of the deceased have come to collect them.

What is the cause of these deaths?

The deaths in Karachi are being attributed to the intense heat in the port city. Many citizens of the city have been affected by the scorching heat, with many being hospitalised due to heatstroke. The city is also believed to have a drug problem. Azim Khan, an official of the Edhi Foundation in Karachi, told The News that most of the people found dead in Karachi were drug addicts who died due to the extreme heat under the influence of drugs.

A senior citizen was also brutally attacked by a group of drug users when he asked about the open consumption of drugs outside his house, ARY News reported. The incident underlines the growing problem of drug abuse in Pakistan, especially the increasing prevalence of ‘ice’ or crystal methamphetamine in recent times. The ease of availability of ice and its relatively low cost compared to other drugs have contributed to its popularity among young Pakistanis.
