Islamabad. The Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly has declared the ‘Parliament Lodge’ here as a sub-jail for the jailed MPs of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, who were arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the recently enacted Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024. On the other hand, according to the news of ‘Dawn News’, the Islamabad High Court canceled the decision to send 10 arrested MPs of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party to jail in judicial custody.
“I have been directed to refer to the production order issued by the Speaker National Assembly on September 11 regarding the 10 lawmakers of Khan’s party who were arrested recently so that they can attend the ninth session of the assembly. The speaker has declared Parliament Lodge in Islamabad as a sub-jail for their detention after each session,” an official of the National Assembly secretariat said in a letter to the interior ministry secretary on Friday.
The party MPs arrested on various charges after the party’s public meeting in Sangjani include Sher Afzal Khan, Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar, Mohammad Ahmed Chattha, Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi, Waqas Akram, Zubair Khan Wazir, Awais Haider Jakhar, Syed Shah Ahad Ali Shah, Naseem Ali Shah and Yousuf Khan. Police officials said all of them were detained in the rooms allotted to the MPs in the Parliament Lodge. The MPs were arrested in connection with cases registered at Sangjani and Noon police stations under various charges, officials said.
