India criticised Pakistan for its baseless comments on the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and said that the comments were politically motivated and baseless and termed it another habitual attempt by the country to divert attention from serious violations. During the UN Security Council open debate on armed conflict, India’s Deputy Representative to the UN R Ravindra said that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India. Before concluding his remarks during the debate, R Ravindra said that in the interest of time I would like to briefly respond to the comments that were clearly politically motivated and baseless, made by a representative against my country. I categorically reject and condemn these baseless comments with the contempt they deserve.

He said this is nothing but another habitual attempt to divert attention from the grave violations against children that continue unabated in his own country, as highlighted in this year’s Secretary-General’s report on children and armed conflict. As for the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, they were, are and will always remain an integral and inseparable part of India, regardless of what this Special Representative or his country may believe or wish.

His remarks came after the representative of Pakistan referred to Jammu and Kashmir in his remarks during the debate at the UNSC. During the UNSC debate, R Ravindra said that the annual debate over the years has brought to the fore the challenges faced by children in situations of armed conflict and helped the international community recognise the importance of preventing violations against children.
