Palak Gulia, a rising young shooter from Haryana, has qualified for the Paris Olympics in the 10m air pistol individual event. When Palak took up shooting, no one knew about the sport. It was only after Palak represented India at the Asian Games that people started recognising Gulia’s contribution to shooting and the sport. Many are still wondering what was her purpose behind taking up the sport and how it would change her life. Palak Gulia was the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the Asian Games at the age of 18.

Born on November 9, 2005 in Jhajjar, Haryana, Palak always had a keen interest in athletics but fell in love with shooting during her schooling. Her love for the sport took her forward rapidly and she managed to be a part of the Indian women’s team that won silver in the 10m pistol event at the Shotgun and Rifle/Pistol World Championships to be held in Cairo, Egypt in 2022. The most special thing about Palak is that she came to the Asian Games after a disappointing performance at the ISSF World Shooting Championships in Baku, where she failed to make it to the Paris Olympics. But the 17-year-old did not let this disappointment dominate her performance in Hangzhou.

Teenage Palak started shooting in 2019 at a school range in Gurugram. She is a Khelo India athlete, included in the scholarship scheme in August 2022. Palak rose rapidly through the ranks, winning two medals at international competitions in 2022. Despite being a teen shooter, the teen athlete also achieved the No.1 ranking in the senior group. The 10m air pistol specialist suffered a shoulder injury in early 2022, which affected her chances at the National Shooting Championships in Bhopal. However, she made a strong comeback to win the top prize at the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 at the same shooting range. Palak also won two silver medals in the team event at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo and the ISSF World Cup Changwon in 2022.
