The alleged assassination attempt was foiled by the US in 2023. The suit also alleges India’s involvement in the death of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. It is worth noting that the allegations made by the Advocate General of the pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice have not been proven in court and the Indian Embassy in Washington has not yet reacted to it.
Canadian pro-Khalistan separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has filed a lawsuit against the Indian government. In this case, the US court has sent a summons to the Indian government. According to CBC News, a civil suit has been filed in a US federal district court against the Government of India, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and others. The Khalistani separatist has claimed damages against Indian officials for the alleged assassination attempt. It has also been said that this alleged assassination attempt was foiled by the US in 2023. The suit also alleges India’s involvement in the death of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. It is worth noting that the allegations made by the Advocate General of the pro-Khalistan group Sikh for Justice have not been proven in court and the Indian Embassy in Washington has not yet reacted to it.
In the suit, Pannun alleged that the gunmen involved in Nijjar’s killing shot the pro-Khalistan terrorist 34 times from very close range. Pannun’s lawyer Matthew Borden told the Canadian news outlet that they succeeded in killing Nijjar and the same would have happened to Pannun. The lawyer further said that the person hired by Gupta was an undercover US agent. Nijjar was shot dead outside a Sikh gurdwara on June 18, 2023. Following this, four Indian nationals have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The killing sparked a major diplomatic row between India and Canada.
Matters worsened after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Parliament in 2023 that credible intelligence linked the killing to the Indian government. India denied any involvement in both the Nijjar and Pannun cases and called the Canadian Prime Minister’s allegations absurd.
