Meanwhile, Punjab Kings (08) are out of the race for the IPL playoffs as they will be able to reach only 12 points despite winning the remaining two matches. Swapnil Singh (two wickets for 28 runs), Karn Sharma (two wickets for 36 runs) and Lockie Ferguson (two wickets for 29 runs) took two wickets each while Mohammed Siraj (three wickets for 73 runs) took three wickets.

While chasing the target, Punjab Kings lost the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh (06 runs) early but Rossouw hit two fours on Swapnil Singh. After this he hit three fours and one six on Mohammad Siraj. Jonny Bairstow (27 runs) and Rossouw on Yash Dayal and Lockie Ferguson scored 16 and 14 runs respectively, taking Punjab Kings to 75 runs for two wickets in six overs. Ferguson dismissed Bairstow after which Rossouw completed his half-century in 21 balls with two fours and a six on Green. Jitesh Sharma was then dismissed by Karn Sharma and Swapnil sent Liam Livingstone (0) to the pavilion due to which the team’s score in the 12th over was 126 runs for five wickets. The team could not recover after these setbacks. Hope ended after Shashank Singh (37 runs), Sam Curran (22 runs) and Ashutosh Sharma (08) reached the dugout.

Earlier, during the fielding of Punjab Kings, many catches were dropped due to which after being invited to bat, Kohli and Patidar took full advantage of the lease of life and scored 72 runs in 32 balls. When Kohli had not opened the account and was on 10 runs, he got two lives. He made full use of these opportunities, making good use of his wrists and feet and completed his sixth half-century of this IPL phase. Patidar also got two leases of life. He accelerated the score initially and hit six sixes and three fours during his innings of 55 runs in 23 balls.

Kohli and Cameron Green (46 runs on 27 balls) continued the same aggressive batting and added 92 runs in 46 balls, taking RCB beyond 200 runs. Fast bowler Vidwath Kawerappa (2 for 36) took two wickets in the powerplay on his IPL debut and this performance could have been spectacular had the fielders not dropped three catches off his bowling. Kohli missed the catch on the third ball. But Kawerappa gave the first success to Punjab Kings by dismissing Faf Duplessis (09) in his second over. Kawerappa again created a chance to dismiss Kohli but Riley Rossouw could not catch the catch.

However, Punjab Kings could not create pressure. Sam Curran (1 for 50) lost 16 runs which included two fours and a six. Kohli hits a six over Kawerappa at long off. But this bowler ended the innings of Will Jacques standing at the other end, who was caught by Harshal Patel (3 wickets for 38 runs). Patel then dropped the catch of Patidar and then missed three fours while bowling, due to which RCB scored 56 runs in the powerplay. After this it started raining sixes. Kohli and Patidar hit a six each on Kawerappa. Patidar then hit three powerful sixes on spinner Rahul Chahar and completed his half-century in 21 balls by hitting sixes on Arshdeep and Karan. Due to Patidar’s brilliance, RCB was successful in crossing the score of 100 runs in the ninth over.

Punjab Kings captain Karan dismissed Patidar in the 10th over, reducing RCB’s score to 119 runs for three wickets. The game was briefly interrupted due to rain. After this, the spin pair of Liam Livingstone and Chahar bowled well after the resumption of play. Kohli completed his half-century in 32 balls and hit two fours on Livingstone. Green completed 150 runs by hitting a four off Patel. After this Kohli hit sixes on Livingstone and six on Curran. After this he hit another six. Dinesh Karthik (18) helped RCB cross 240 runs.
