Political turmoil over Mani Shankar Aiyar’s love for Pakistan, BJP got a chance to play on the front foot in the election season.

On one hand, Congress is claiming that the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections is going in the right direction. On the other hand, its vocal leaders seem to be increasing the problems of the party. The politics regarding Sam Pitroda’s statement had not yet ended when Mani Shankar Aiyer’s love for Pakistan came to the fore once again. Then what, BJP got a big opportunity to attack Congress once again on the pretext of Mani Shankar Aiyar. Mani Shankar Iyer’s statement is like a full toss ball on which the batsman can step out and hit a long six and perhaps this is the opportunity BJP has got. BJP has again started trying to capitalize on Mani Shankar Aiyar’s statement in this election. BJP is presenting it among the people as Congress’s love for Pakistan.

What did Mani Shankar Iyer say

Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar sparked controversy by saying that India should hold talks with Pakistan and not increase its military strength as this could provoke Islamabad into deploying nuclear weapons against New Delhi. He was the second leader in recent times to warn about Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities. Earlier this week, National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah had made sharp remarks that Pakistan could resort to nuclear bomb if provoked. Iyer said that Pakistan has nuclear bombs. We have them too, but if some ‘madman’ decides to bomb Lahore, the radiation will not take 8 seconds to reach Amritsar. He said that if we respect them, they will be peaceful. But if we despise them, what if some ‘madman’ comes and decides to bomb India? Taking an indirect dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Aiyar said, “To become a Vishwaguru, no matter how serious our issues are with Pakistan, we have to show that we are working hard to resolve them. But In the last 10 years, no hard work has been done.”

BJP got a big opportunity

Mani Shankar Aiyar’s statement has given BJP a big opportunity to attack Congress. Union Minister and BJP leader Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that the Congress Party has become a supporter of Pakistan and Pakistan-based terrorism. Today again Congress will try to distance itself from Mani Shankar Aiyar. He said that whether it is Mani Shankar Aiyar or Sam Pitroda, it shows an example of the ideology and policies of Congress. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that Congress leaders live in India but their heart lives in Pakistan. This much courage in Pakistan? India knows how to give a befitting reply. Shehzad Poonawala said that Congress’s ‘Pakistan love’ is not stopping. Mani Shankar Aiyar, close to the ‘First Family’, is demonstrating the strength of Pakistan on behalf of the Congress Party. He said that ‘Congress’s hand’ is being seen along with ‘Pakistan’s hand’. Giriraj Singh said that Rahul Gandhi, Congress, Mani Shankar Aiyer are speaking the language of Pakistan.

Congress’s stance

On Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s recent statement on Pakistan, Congress candidate from North West Delhi Lok Sabha seat Udit Raj said that Mani Shankar Aiyar does not hold any official post. So whatever he says is his personal opinion. Congress has no such stand. Congress is not saying anything on this. Congress today distanced itself from senior party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s remarks in which he had said that India should respect Pakistan so that they do not drop nuclear bombs on us. Pawan Kheda, in a post on Revived in an attempt to divert attention. Kheda said, “Iyer does not speak for the party in any capacity.”
