Presidential elections are to be held in the US on November 5. There is a contest between Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Kamala Harris. Former US President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have come under the target of Pope Francis, who is on the longest journey for religious harmony. Pope Francis has strongly criticized both of them. He has advised American voters on the policies on immigration and abortion. The Pope told the voters to vote for the less evil candidate and elect the President. The Argentine Pope criticized both Trump on his plan to deport immigrants and Harris on her stand on supporting abortion rights.
While returning to Rome from Singapore, the Pope said that both are against life, whether it is expelling migrants or killing children. Pope Francis called closing the doors to migrants a grave sin. Along with this, he equated abortion with murder. Without elaborating, he appealed to American Catholics to vote for the lesser evil candidate when voting in November.
“Do you have the courage to criticise and at the same time allow yourself to be criticised?” the pope said during an inter-religious meeting with young people from a Catholic junior college on the last day of his visit to Singapore. The pope said dialogue among young people will promote a wider civil dialogue in the community. He noted that criticism can be constructive or disruptive and young people should respect people of different faiths when criticising.
