The Supreme Court has strongly reprimanded the CBI for filing a petition to transfer the post-poll violence cases from West Bengal to another state. The Supreme Court said that the CBI cannot doubt the entire judiciary. This creates a doubt that the entire judiciary is in a hostile environment. There is no intention of doing so. After strong criticism from the Supreme Court, the CBI decided to withdraw the transfer petition.

The transfer petition was filed in December last year, seeking transfer of the cases out of West Bengal due to alleged concerns of intimidation of witnesses and threat to the judicial process. The court had issued notice on the petition in February this year.
