R Ashwin has performed brilliantly in the first Test match being played against Bangladesh. Ashwin has scored the sixth century of his Test career. His century came at a time when Team India needed him the most. After India’s top and middle order batting order collapsed, he joined Jadeja and brought the team to a good position.
India lost two sessions on the first day. Bangladesh bowlers dominated both the sessions. However, Ashwin and Jadeja’s partnership put the third session in India’s favour. This is Ashwin’s second century on his home ground. Before this, he has also scored centuries against West Indies and England.
Ashwin’s sixth Test century came in 108 balls. This is the fastest century of his Test career. He is unbeaten on 102 runs on the first day of the match. His partner Ravindra Jadeja is also unbeaten on 86 runs.
Let us tell you that Ashwin is the only batsman in the world who has taken more than 500 wickets in Test cricket and has scored 6 centuries. R Ashwin along with Ravindra Jadeja has made the biggest partnership for the seventh wicket for India against Bangladesh.
The Indian team lost 6 wickets for 144 runs, but he along with Jadeja carried the innings forward and took the team past 330. A partnership of nearly 200 runs has been made between these two batsmen for the seventh wicket. This is R Ashwin’s second Test century on his home ground in Chennai. Earlier in February 2021, he scored a century against England.
